+ First SIP.edu Implementors Workshop a Success
The Internet2 SIP.edu project is promoting the convergence of voice and email
identities, is growing SIP-reachability within Internet2, and is building
a community of Internet2 schools that are developing and deploying campus
SIP services. In one year, the project has extended SIP reachability to nearly
100,000 users at four universities, attracted corporate sponsorship, and
published a "cookbook" to lower the implementation hurdle for others.
Representatives from throughout the Internet2 community recently gathered
at the first SIP.edu Implementors Workshop. Key leaders in SIP.edu deployment
made presentations on the current status of SIP.edu at their institutions
and charted a course for scaling up campus and inter-campus SIP service deployment.
Workshop outcomes included an improved understanding of campus SIP deployment
issues, next-steps for the SIP.edu Cookbook, and consensus on the need for
a second, more hands-on workshop. The workshop was hosted by University of
Pennsylvania and sponsored by Comcast.
