University Partner Program

As part of its commitment to furthering advancements in Internet research and development, Ixia has created the Ixia University Partners Program (IxUPP). The IxUPP program is in collaboration with Internet2 and is open to participation by any Internet2 affiliated university or Internet2 International MoU Partners. The program includes three components:

1. Equipment Donations to Universities – A variety of new or refurbished chassis/cards and software will be available to participating universities. The list of equipment will vary based on availability. Training on how to use Ixia test equipment in conducting tests relating to traffic generation, performance analysis, or protocol conformance will be offered periodically by Ixia.

2. Sponsored University Test Labs – Ixia supports a limited number of University Test Labs that are engaged in testing of routers, switches, protocols, and advanced systems or applications.

3. University Discount – A 40% discount of list price on Ixia hardware and software is available to academic institutions.

For additional information on Ixia's IxUPP initiative, see http://www.ixiacom.com/company/alliances/.

Ixia Equipment Donations

During the first phase of this program, 15 Internet2 Member universities and 5 International MoU participants were selected to receive traffic generation and performance analysis equipment. Four of these institutions were also selected to receive ANVL IPv6 Conformance Testing Software.
During the current phase of this program, an additional 10-15 Internet2 Member universities will be selected to receive equipment during 2003. To apply for this testing equipment, complete the IxUPP Equipment Request Form. Available equipment includes the IXIA 1600 Chassis and multi-layer gigabit Ethernet cards.

Interested universities are encouraged to submit their applications by May 1, 2003. Questions should be directed to partners@ixiacom.com.

Applications for equipment donations will be jointly evaluated by Ixia and Internet2 personnel. Evaluation criteria include:

  • 2003/2004 Test Plans involving use of equipment
  • 2003/2004 Graduate or Undergraduate Courses / Lab Exercises that will use the equipment
  • Enhancements to specific Research projects resulting from availability of the equipment
  • Likelihood of published Test Results involving equipment
  • Sharing of Test Plans, Test Results, or Equipment Usage with other Internet2 universities or colleges or other academic departments / programs within the recipient institution
  • Level of resources (staff, student, other) committed to the Lab in which the equipment will reside

The shipment of equipment to recipient Universities and Colleges is expected to occur within 1-4 weeks following notification of awards. Ixia will provide periodic training sessions (web-based or at our offices in Calabasas) for recipient institutions on how to use the equipment in testing. The equipment is provided as-is; no warranty or on-going support will be provided by Ixia. To assist in fostering a cooperative, collaborative relationship among the participating universities, Internet2 will host a mail list for recipient schools to discuss how to best setup and conduct performance and protocol tests involving networking hardware, software, and applications.
