university has decided to NOT install firewalls at the perimeter of
the network.

achieve maximum performance.

- We have had
some issues regarding firewall and intrusion prevention equipment
impeding traffic from our physics grid computing system. The traffic
from the grid computing system appears for the most part to be a form
of peer-to-peer traffic and some of the security equipment has not
dealt with it correctly.

filters necessary for security get in the way of high-speed
connections.
