Note: This diagram shows the relationships that are possible between Internet2 membership and the Abilene Network. It does not necessarily reflect the actual network topology. A Regular University member may have a direct connection to the Abilene Network, but most maintain a connection through a gigaPoP. Affiliate and Corporate members wishing to connect to Abilene need to apply for collaboration site status in addition to Internet2 Membership. International networks may connect to Abilene through an NGIX, gigaPoP or Peer Network. All Regular, Affiliate Collaboration Sites, and Corporate Collaboration Sites wishing to connect to the Abilene Network must also complete an Abilene Participation Form.
